Balri Birth Gift Scheme

Balri Birth Gift Scheme: 

The Balri Birth Gift Scheme is a welfare initiative launched by the BOCW Welfare Board, Department of Labour, Punjab. This scheme aims to provide financial assistance to the registered workers of the board for the birth of a female child. The assistance is provided in the form of a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR), which can be encashed only at the time of the daughter’s marriage, helping to support the girl child’s future.

Benefits of the Scheme:

Under the Balri Birth Gift Scheme, the registered construction workers receive financial assistance:

  • Amount: ₹51,000/- for each female child (up to two girls per family).
  • Condition: The FDR can only be encashed when the daughter gets married.

Eligibility Criteria:

For Registration as a Building/Construction Worker:

  • Residency: The applicant must be a resident of Punjab.
  • Work Type: The applicant should be a Building/Construction Worker (Unorganised Worker).
  • Age: The applicant should be between 18 and 60 years of age.
  • Work Experience: The applicant must have worked in building and construction for at least 90 days in a given year.
  • Income: The monthly income of the applicant must be ₹15,000 or below.
  • Other Memberships: The applicant should not be a member of any other Welfare Fund established under any law.
  • Social Security: The applicant should not be a member of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), National Pension System (NPS), or Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
  • Taxpayer Status: The applicant should not be an income taxpayer.

For the Application of the Welfare Scheme:

  • The applicant must be a registered member under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board of Punjab.
  • The applicant must have regularly deposited his contribution to the Welfare Fund.
  • The scheme is applicable for a maximum of two girls per family.

Registration Process as a Building/Construction Worker:

  1. To register as a worker, visit the nearby Sewa Kendra or contact Registering Officers/Labour Inspectors.

Application Process for the Welfare Scheme:

  1. To apply for the Balri Birth Gift Scheme, approach the Sewa Kendra or Registering Officers/Labour Inspectors in your area.
  2. Registration with the Board: To become a member of the Board, the worker must fill Application Form No. 28, pay a one-time registration fee of ₹25, and contribute ₹10/month. The minimum registration period is 1 year, and the maximum is 5 years. A worker becomes a Beneficiary of the Board once registered.

  1. Age proof (If no age proof, self-declaration).
  2. Residence proof.
  3. Aadhaar card (if available).
  4. Bank account details (Bank branch, account number, and IFSC/RTGS number).
  5. Details of dependents.
  6. Employer’s Certificate (Form No. 28) to prove 90 days of construction work during the last 12 months in Punjab.
  7. Nomination Form (Form No. 27).

For the Application of the Welfare Scheme:

  1. Child’s photo with the parents.
  2. Aadhaar Card of the girl child.
  3. Date of Birth Certificate issued by the Registrar.
