Bebe Nanki Laadli Beti Kalyan Scheme

Launched by the Government of Punjab in 2011, the Bebe Nanki Laadli Beti Kalyan Scheme is a welfare initiative aimed at improving the gender ratio in the state and combating female feticide. The scheme supports education and welfare of girl children born in Punjab by offering financial assistance to eligible families, ensuring that the birth of a girl does not become a financial burden.

Beneficiaries:

  • Girls born after 1st January 2011.
  • Parents must be permanent residents of Punjab.
  • Girls residing in orphanages and children’s homes in Punjab after being abandoned, born after 1st January 2011.
  • This scheme excludes newly born boys.
  • Families with an annual income less than ₹30,000 as certified by the blue card issued by the Food and Supply Department of Punjab.
  • Families that drop out of school after the girl child’s enrollment are not eligible for continued benefits.

Benefits:

Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided in stages as the girl child grows, up to the age of 18 years. The total benefit amounts to ₹61,000, provided in different stages:

Stage Age Amount Released
On birth of the girl child 0 years ₹2,100/-
On attaining 3 years (after full immunization) 3 years ₹2,100/-
On admission to Class 1 6 years ₹2,100/-
On admission to Class IX 14 years ₹2,100/-
On attaining 18 years and passing Class XII 18 years ₹31,000/-

Scholarships:

  • Class 1 to VI: ₹100 per month (₹7,200 in total)
  • Class VII to XII: ₹200 per month (₹14,400 in total)

The total financial benefit at the age of 18 years amounts to ₹61,000.


Eligibility Criteria:

For the Beneficiary:

  1. Girls born after 1st January 2011 in the state of Punjab.
  2. Parents must be permanent residents of Punjab.
  3. Girls residing in orphanages and children’s homes in Punjab are also eligible if abandoned after 1st January 2011.
  4. The family should have an annual income of less than ₹30,000 as evidenced by a blue card issued by the Punjab Food and Supply Department.

Conditions:

  • The girl child must attend school; if she drops out, no further benefits will be provided.
  • Boys are not eligible for this scheme.

Application Process:

Offline:

  1. Applicants should approach their nearest District Program Officer (DPO).
  2. Application forms will be provided by the concerned DPO.
  3. Fill out the form and submit it along with the required documents.
  4. The concerned authority will verify the application.
  5. Once verified, eligible applicants will be able to avail the benefits of the scheme.

Required Documents:

  • Address proof of the guardian.
  • Aadhaar Card of the guardian.
  • Birth Certificate of the girl child.
  • Income Proof (Blue card issued by the Food and Supply Department of Punjab).
  • Bank Account Details.
