IES ISS 2026 Eligibility

Nationality

The candidate must be a citizen of India, or belong to another permitted nationality category specified in the official notice, subject to Government of India eligibility certification where required.

Educational Qualification

  • Indian Economic Service: Post-Graduate Degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics or Econometrics from a recognized university or institution.
  • Indian Statistical Service: Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Applied Statistics as one of the subjects, or Master’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Applied Statistics.
  • For Indian Statistical Service, Statistics must have been studied in all years of the Bachelor’s Degree course. Study as a component of a multidisciplinary course for one or two semesters is not sufficient.

Age Limit

The age limit is 21 to 30 years as on 01/08/2026.

  • Up to 5 years for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates.
  • Up to 3 years for eligible Other Backward Class candidates.
  • Up to 5 years for eligible Ex-servicemen and ECOs/SSCOs under the stated conditions.
  • Up to 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities under the stated conditions.
  • Other relaxations apply to eligible Defence Services Personnel disabled in operations, as specified in the notice.

Candidates who have appeared or intend to appear in the qualifying examination may apply, subject to producing valid proof of passing within the prescribed time if called for the Personality Test/Interview.

IES ISS 2026 Application Fee

  • Rs. 200 for candidates not covered by the exemption.
  • No fee for female candidates, Scheduled Caste candidates, Scheduled Tribe candidates and eligible Persons with Benchmark Disability candidates.
  • No fee exemption is available to OBC/EWS candidates.

How to Apply for IES ISS 2026

  1. Create an account and complete Universal Registration.
  2. Complete the Common Application Form.
  3. Complete the examination-specific module, including fee payment and examination-centre choice.
  4. Upload the required photograph and signature and complete the live photograph capture.
  5. Submit the application and retain the URN, Application Number and a copy of the submitted application.

Applications cannot be withdrawn or corrected after submission. A one-time update facility is available for the URN profile, but changes do not apply to already submitted applications.

ISS written papers are General English, General Studies, Statistics-I, Statistics-II, Statistics-III and Statistics-IV. Statistics-I and Statistics-II are objective papers of 2 hours each. Statistics-III and Statistics-IV are descriptive papers of 3 hours each.

  • Negative marking applies to wrong answers in objective-type papers.
  • Question papers are set in English and must be answered in English.
